Importance of Running/walking shoes

A good shoe will give you enough shock absorption, motion control,
flexibility and durability and this will lessen the chance of injury
,
muscle/joint soreness.

Three important words to remember when looking for that shoe

We all do one of those three when our foot strikes the ground -
Pronation, Overpronation and Underpronation.

Pronation is good and it is the rotation of the foot inward and downward
as it hits the ground, finally the heel lifts from the ground and you

push off from the ball of your foot to move forward.

Problems occur when you overpronate or underpronate

Overpronation: The feet roll too far inwards and this can lead to lower
leg and knee problems - You need a shoe with firm, stabilising wedges on
the inside of shoe and good heel counter

Underpronation: The foot rolls very little and the feet become to rigid
and don't absorb shock well. You need a shoe that is well cushioned and
softer and allows your foot to roll inwards to absorb shock. The shoe
works with your foot rather than trying to control it.

I am an excessive pronator and with the right shoe and orthodics I have
remained injury free most of my career.
